Last year, Jamie Brenner established herself as one of the queens of the summer reading season with THE FOREVER SUMMER. She joined us at our Elin Hilderbrand event and we fell in love with her!!!!!
This April, Jamie Brenner returns with her most compelling novel yet, THE HUSBAND HOUR.
ABOUT THE BOOK:
Lauren Adelman retreats to her family’s beach house on the Jersey Shore following the tragic death of her husband, Rory Kincaid. Rory was her high school sweetheart, and a star hockey player in the NHL. Their future could not have looked brighter, until Rory shocked everyone—Lauren most of all—by enlisting in the
U.S. Army. When he dies in combat, Lauren is left devastated, alone, and under unbearable public scrutiny. Lauren draws inward and escapes to the shore, seeking solace and privacy during the winter months, when the boardwalk and beaches are empty. But Memorial Day brings unwelcome company when Lauren’s doting (overbearing) mother and combative sister arrive to spend the summer. To make matters worse, a journalist
making a documentary about Rory’s life and death shows up on Lauren’s doorstep. A one-hour interview with him upends the carefully constructed life Lauren has created for herself, calling into question everything she thought she knew about her complicated husband.
Inspired by the true story of NFL star and military hero Pat Tillman, and echoing today’s headlines about athletes and traumatic brain injury, THE HUSBAND HOUR is a propulsive, page-turning novel full of dark secrets about family, the lies we tell ourselves to make sense of the past, and the healing power of forgiveness.
